Darchula Power Limited is a company established and incorporated for the development and operation of hydropower projects to generate and supply electricity to the National grid as its prime objective. The company is currently developing 28.3 MegaWatt, Madhya Chameliya Hydroelectric Project a run-off river type project in Chameliya River, a major tributary of Mahakali River located at Marma Rural Municipality, Darchula district of Sudhur Paschim Province in the Far Western region of Nepal. The major promoter/investor behind this company is Api Power Company Limited, a leading company in Nepal's Power Sector with Power Generation and Supply to National Grid as its core business. Api Power Company Limited shall invest and shall own shares i.e. majority 51% stake holding in the Company. As a Promoter in this Darchula Power Limited, Api Power Company Limited invests the Equity required for the development of the Projects owned. Geographically the Project is located between the Latitude 290 42' 55" to 290 45' 00” North and Longitude 800 46' 45" to 800 42' 38" East. The intake and powerhouse sites lie in the Darchula District at altitudes of 1042.260m amsl and 906.0m amsl respectively. The effective catchment area of Chameliya River at the proposed intake site is around 769.67 km2. Based on the hydrological analysis, a design discharge of 25.17 m3/s is derived at a 40.00% probability of flow exceedance.
With the available gross head of 136.26m and considering the losses in water conveyance, a net head of 128.46m is available at Powerhouse. Two Horizontal axis Francis turbines 14.59 MW (each) units are designed to generate 28.3 MW power at a design discharge of 25.17 m3/s and 128.46m head. Since Api Power Company Limited has constructed and operated its 132 kV double circuit transmission line used to evacuate the energy from Mathilo Chameliya Hydroelectric Project, we intend to evacuate the power from the same to the switchyard to NEA’s substation at Balanch Substation, Darchula district. The total annual energy generation from the plant will be 185.62GWh, out of which 118.52 GWh is the wet seasonal energy and 67.10GWh is the dry seasonal energy.
The company has obtained a survey license for the Project from the Department of Electricity Development, Ministry of Energy, and completed the Detailed Survey of the Project. The company entered the Power Purchase Agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority on dated 29th Ashwin, 2080 B.S. The IEE has already been approved by the Ministry of Energy and the Land acquisition for the Project has been started. The company has applied to obtain the Generation License from the Ministry of Energy, Department of Electricity Development (DOED) and soon begins its construction.
